Tunnel Vision

“Psst…look over there!”

“What?  Where?”

“Over there.  Straight ahead.”

“Eek!  It’s the big, blue shiny thing!”

“Yes, that’s what I’ve been trying to tell you.”

“But, I have no desire to move!”

“I don’t want to sound rude, but I told you not to settle there.  I’ve been in this spot for over six months and no one has bothered me.”

“Ugh.  What am I going to do?  The ride down that tunnel is way too fast for me.  It took everything I had last time just to compose myself and then relocate.”

“Well, I can keep a look-out, and give you a signal to make a run for it if she gets close.”

“What about my family?  The little ones won’t be able to move as quickly.  I’m afraid I may lose them.”

“And the alternative, mate?  Seems like you don’t really have a choice.”

Just then, a deafening sound filled the space, blocking any further communication between the friends.

The owner was determined to canvas every corner, crevice, and hidden surface.  The friends looked at each other in horror as they realized their fate.  At least they would be taking the journey together this time!

  1. You have me curious. I need to sit with this and come back to figure out what is the big blue shiny thing… This is a great text for monitoring for meaning. I found myself reading it again and again – searching for clues and integrating… will there be a follow-up slice???

    • LMK if you need assistance with the clues! It was fun to write as I recalled my thoughts while performing the chore. It’s been liberating to write with humor for this challenge! Thanks for reading – and re-reading!

    • It’s a dry, sucking motion, not a wet, swishing one. Hope this helps to confirm! Had it not been for the “big, shiny blue thing” there may have been other possible fates. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

  2. Thanks for reading and thinking! I purposely omitted the answer, but am feeling a little guilty at the moment, wondering if my readers are satisfied. One reader asked if I planned to have a follow-up slice. That was not my intention, but maybe I will consider drafting a sequel to dispel any uncertainty!
