Twelve

Something seems off.

He’s not himself.

The doctors run tests.

They wait.

It’s not a fluke.

The diagnosis says bone cancer.

How can this be?

He’s twelve.

Their world spins upside-down.

Prognosis is good.

They caught it early.

It’s centralized in his chest.

Today’s the big day.

At this moment, he’s being prepped for surgery.

They need to start chemo.

Bless the hands that will heal.

Summon strength for the family.

Surround the boy with love.

Since when is cancer a household word?

He’s twelve.

Words fail me right now. There are such difficult moments in life that we cannot fathom. This is one of them. Thank you for sharing the raw emotion in your slice and reminding us that we all have a story, some are just more difficult to tell.
